CEO, Solaga

Hi Benjamin! What does Solaga do?

We use algae to reduce pollutants in the environment and build a circular economy to produce green energy.

Why is it going to change the world?

Algae have very versatile properties from nature. They absorb pollutants and produce wet substances. They can be the starting point for many applications/technologies that are socially and politically demanded to counteract climate change.

What led you to start the company?

The company grew out of research and was driven early on by the big vision (circular economy and green energy).

What keeps you going through tough times?

The vision of Solaga motivates me.

What’s the most exciting thing you’re working on right now?

We are marketing our first product, Alwe: Alwe is an eco-efficient wall decoration. The algae pattern brings life to the wall - space-saving and easy to clean. At the heart of Alwe is a living micro-algae biofilm, which is called air purifier actively binds air pollutants and makes them harmless. Ventilation openings on the left and right sides integrate Alwe into the natural air circulation of the room. Air pollutants are trapped on the moist surface of the microalgae biofilm. The bound pollutants are then deactivated and consumed by the immobilised microalgae.

What’s been your most memorable moment since founding the company?

Launching Alwe - the algea picture.

How do you celebrate your wins?

Together with our team.

Anything else you want to tell us?

Algae are really fascinating. It's worth spending some time with them. We have compiled wide-ranging information in a podcast.

I find it exciting how many great solutions there are in the field of GreenTech and hope that together we can get more attention to the solutions and players involved.

Us, too! Find out more about Solaga on their website.
